My dear friend and mentor, Claude Berthiaume Shihan, Chief Instructor of Aikido de la Montagne, Montreal, and a member of the United States Aikido Federation Technical Committee, passed peacefully yesterday afternoon, surrounded by loved ones.

It was very hard to say goodbye to him. He chose his own path, just as he did in life. Now, at least, he rests in peace.

There is so much more I want to say and share about Claude Sensei, how much he influenced me and my training. For now, I am simply thankful for him – and for all of you.

Life is short, and I am so grateful for the friendships we forge on and off the mat.
