It’s time for our annual roll call (get it!?) for Winter Camp! Please post your ARRIVAL DATE AND TIME and DEPARTURE DATE AND TIME in the comments below. If you are coming to/leaving from an airport other than FLL, please include this information as well. Once we have all the info, I will compile all arrivals and departures into a spreadsheet for organizational and Uber-sharing purposes! Just a quick note as we move closer to our dojo trip to ZIPANGU – just 12 weeks and counting!

The recommended itinerary (below) is meant to introduce some top activities including training at Hombu Dojo and Aikido Kyoto.

Sunday 10/26 - Scrubbing and dusting

Join me at 9am, this Sunday 10/26, to give the dojo a thorough dusting, mopping, vacuuming, and maybe even a spic-and-spanning.

We'll get our construction zone as clean as possible for Open Mat.

How To Train in an Active Construction Zone

If you've been to the dojo, you've probably noticed a few changes. First, it's huge. It's gorgeous and amazing! Second, it's a bit of a disaster. Piles of wood, ceiling tiles, demo debris... and dust. LOTS of dust. The patient is definitely open on the table, and it's going to progress a little slower than anyone would like. That said, here's how we can keep training without letting the dirt get the best of us.

1) Keep shoes on. For now, the shoe removal rule is suspended for all areas except the mat. This will help us keep the dust off the mat. Keep your shoes on right up to the edge of the mat.

2) Usage as usual. The new area is full of hazards and is quite dusty. Please use the 'old' side of the dojo for the time being, to avoid injury, confusion, and messiness.

3) Help…

New Forum in the app

All,

Our website host (Wix) just rolled out a new version of the Forums widget on our private site. It has quite a few new features and functions for us to enjoy. One change is that each 'Forum' is now called a Group. We have 4 groups (Peachtree Forum, Off the Mat, Study Resources, Seminars). You need to 'opt in' to each group to get notifications of new content in that group. So please take these steps to join all four:

  1. open the app

  2. Under New Forum, click the 'Forums List'

  3. Click Join Group for each group

You're good to go! Let me know if you have any problems (and don't miss Erin's post about her Halloween party in the Off the Mat group!)

What an amazing day yesterday! Huge thanks to all for your hard work. There was no way to know how big of a project we were biting off … but what we do know is that many hands make light work and yesterday was an awesome example of it!. Be sure to take Mitsukos classes tonight so you can enjoy the first class in the new space!!!

Sun 10/19: No Open Mat. Yes Demolition! 9am start.

This Sunday, we will literally go BIG... and THEN go home! Sunday class is cancelled so we can take the plunge into the new space. JP and I will lead the effort for the day.

On Saturday after class, we will scoop up all the mats in preparation for the following day.

Then Sunday we will

  • demolish the dividing wall

  • dismantle the existing underflooring

  • pull down the ceiling in the current space

Calling all Uke! (and Dan candidates!)

We are now four weeks out from Winter Camp. The annual pilgrimage to Fort Lauderdale always creates excitement for Peachtree, and this year is no exception as we have three Dan candidates to cheer on.

As we're in the home stretch, Friday night class will be focused on testers. We need uke to show up so the testers can get in ample amounts of throws.

I know - it's Friday night, the end of the work week, and lots of social plans pull us in all directions. If you don't normally come on a Friday night, consider changing your routine for one, two, or even three of the remaining Friday evenings for the testers.

And Dan candidates - beer is on me at Gino's afterwards!

Wise advice from someone who just recently tested for a black belt - we're in the home stretch which means you need to stay limber and un-injured BUT it's still CRUNCH time.
